Meet the Doula
Jackie Martinez, RN
Welcome to Lilacs In Bloom! My name is Jackie. I am wife to an amazing firefighter, mother of 3, and Labor and Delivery nurse turned Birth and Postpartum Doula. At a very young age I fell in love with the spirituality of birth and began to understand the importance of supported maternal-child wellness during the postpartum period. As a teenager I attended various midwifery conferences and home births with my mother. Those early experiences helped shape my core values as they relate to childbirth and women's health.
In 2009 I graduated from nursing school and immediately began a career in labor and delivery. Over the years I’ve cared for thousands of patients in labor and their babies. Throughout my career I have always strived to help women follow their instincts and intuition during their labor, delivery and beyond. Although most of my experience has been in the hospital, I chose to deliver all three of my children at home (and I was also born at home).
I believe every pregnant woman deserves a supportive, nurturing and knowledgeable guide to help them feel empowered during their labor, delivery and into that very special 4th trimester. Whether you’re planning to deliver in a hospital, birth center or at home, I would love to be that person for you. I offer a unique blend of clinical knowledge to help you understand and navigate possible medical interventions but also a keen feminine intuition to help support and guide you on a more holistic and spiritual path during your pregnancy, birth and beyond. I hope to connect with you soon!

What is a Doula?
I can help with

Advocacy
Doulas act as advocates for the mother, helping to ensure that her wishes and needs are respected throughout the labor and delivery process. Because of my RN background I have a greater understanding of any medical interventions which may arise.
Emotional Support
Doulas help create a safe and comfortable environment for mothers to feel empowered and confident in their birthing experience and during the precious weeks after delivery. Together we can work through any feelings that arise during your labor and postpartum period.
Evidence Based Advice
Doulas provide evidence-based advice that empowers you to make informed decisions about your pregnancy and birth. This includes everything from pain management options, birthing positions, breastfeeding, or postpartum care

Continuous Support
A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous support to expectant mothers throughout the entire laboring process. From the early stages of labor to the delivery of the baby and beyond. I am also here for you during your pregnancy via phone and email to answer any questions you and your partner may have. I am also available telephone support during your postpartum period.
Cheerleader & Coach
If hurdles arise, a doula is there to keep you motivated, supported and remind you of your power. We can work together to build a birth and postpartum plan.
Physical Support
Doulas offer comfort measures such as massage, breathing techniques, and positioning to help ease the pain of labor. Additionally, they provide guidance and support for new parents as they navigate the challenges of caring for themselves as well as their newborn after delivery.
